The Cashmere Sweater

by Christina

Baby John's Cashmere Sweater

Last week Baby John’s cashmere sweater came off my needles. Am I insane to knit a cashmere sweater for a 5 month baby? Probably. But he’s my munchkin to spoil. However, I will say I paid a total of $8 for this cashmere.

No, I didn’t get this lovely yarn at a yarn sale. I salvaged it from two lovely cashmere sweaters from the second hand store. After ripping out the two sweaters (one blue and one camel) I plied them together with my spinning wheel — yes, one of the lovely benefits of having a wheel on hand. It turned out to be a lovely, rounded, 4 ply worsted weight cashmere yarn that was heaven to knit.

So, if your dying to knit with cashmere but your budget right now will not permit that kind of a splurge — try recycled cashemere! It’s VERY rewarding.

I will say one thing — this sweater is VERY warm. Poor Baby John almost overheated in it on Sunday. I’ll have to make sure he wears it only on the coldest days.

Next time I recycle cashmere I think I’m going to make my Birthday Cake Cowl or my Pearl Street Scarf. Those are two items that would sing if they were knitted out of cashmere!

5 Months

by Christina

Is this turning into a baby blog? Perhaps, but I do have some knitting to post soon!

Baby John turned 5 months this past Saturday. JK and I got out his little outfit that my mother in law ran out to purchase after he was born. He was too small for all the newborn clothes I had packed in our hospital bag.

Just look at Baby John now! I couldn’t believe he’s grown that much in 5 months! I really do feel like he grows every time he goes down for a nap and is visibly changed when I pick him up out of his crib. Oh, my sweet little boy. I’m soaking up these baby days with him.

Crochet Mitts

by Christina

I’ve been finishing a few projects lately. One of them was the crochet mitts — I added flowers. Aren’t they cute? I haven’t settled on the pattern yet, it needs a few tweaks! But someday soon!

Motherhood

by Christina

There are many joys of motherhood (as well as frustrations, don’t get me wrong). For me, one of them is going into Baby John’s room and picking him up when he wakes up from his nap. He gets so excited to see me. Just look at that little face. What a sweetie!

I told JK the other day that I missed my calling as a nanny. But then I thought, “I have it all. Mother, Freelance Designer and CEO of my own company. I am really blessed.”

Take a moment and reflect on your own life (preferably while you have some good knitting in your hands). Despite these dark days or dark things in your life, there is usually a bit of light and delight.

Happy Knitting!

Quarter’s Cap

by Christina

Kristen Nicholas' Quarter's Cap

About a week ago I was reading my favorite knitting inspiration blog – Getting Stitched On the Farm. Kristen Nicholas was talking about the Quarter’s Cap she designed using short rows and garter stitch. I just had to knit it. I hopped on her website and bought the pattern. OH. MY. GOODNESS. This hat is quite addictive. It is mindlessly fun to knit.

I made the above hat for Lil John. It came out a little bit too big. I’ve begun another on smaller needles and I think it will be just right. I have to remember that Lil John is a little bit smaller than other babies and the “infant” size doesn’t always fit!

If you are looking for a fun way to use up bits and pieces of yarn — this is it!

Regina Cardi

by Christina

Regina Cardi

Regina has been available for purchase on Ravelry for a little while. But it is now finally available in my online shop! It is a fun knit and amazing to wear (very figure forgiving – perfect for me since I still don’t have my prebaby figure back.)

New Year’s Eve

by Christina

Ready for New Year's Eve

On New Year’s Eve, JK, Baby John and I headed out to a party. We were supposed to wear hats that described our hopes and dreams for 2010. I decided to wear a whole outfit — do I look like any famous knitters you might know? You can’t see them very well, but my tam has a pair of Addi natura needles stuck into the front. My hope and dream for the new year isĀ  to make it through this big project I started – Knitting Zimmermann

JK'a Hat

JK’s hat was great. He had a “Press Card” stuck in one side of his fedora. On the other side he had a notebook and a pen emblazoned with “Big Scoops.”

Baby John's Hopes & Dreams -- Walking

Baby John looked terribly cute with his Hopes & Dreams Hat. His hope and dream for the new year is, of course, to walk.

I hope you all had a safe and happy New Year’s Eve!
