Mitts and Shawl

by Christina

Hi everyone,

well, I didn’t get the individual pattern for the Lamb’s Lace Mitts up yesterday like I planned. Instead I went for a visit to Stitches & Scones with Baby John. That was fun! Although Baby John was a little pistol. He’s a mama’s boy and I’m trying to socialize him…. ah, well, I’ve got my work cut out for me.

But there are up on Ravelry the mitts and the shawl

Whispers of Spring

by Christina

It’s done! The collection is finally complete! It’s available through Ravelry right now. I will be selling the pieces as separate patterns and will up load them in the next few days.

In the collection I talk about each individual piece and the inspiration behind the pattern. I’ll share a little of that as I show case each pattern throughout the week. However, today I wanted to review a yarn that I used in the collection.

For the Leaves of Spring Cowl I knew I wanted a springy merino – something soft and warm. I read Susan’s blog about Juniper Moon Farm constantly and knew of her lovely yarn but had never tried any. So I took the plunge. I was not disappointed at all.

Promptness: The yarn came so quickly I couldn’t believe it came through the post. It was as if she “beamed” it to me.

Softness: Juniper Moon’s Sport Weight merino is lovely, soft and squishy. I will say it soften mostly after a bath in Euculan.

Stitch Definition: Excellent

Yardage and Price: Amazing — 400 yds for $14! Love that!

Notes: Juniper Moon’s retail yarn is not wool from their flock. That is only reserved for their shareholders. One of my goals is to become a shareholder — just love what they do. However, it is all hand dyed at the farm. You can purchase it online or if you are lucky enough to live close to Juniper Moon, at the farm or some of the local farmer’s markets.

The Leaves of Spring Cowl is up on Ravelry as a stand alone pattern or you can purchase the whole collection.

PS: Blackberry Rambles is holding a giveaway for the whole collection – hop on over and see if you win it!

The Photo Shoot

by Christina

Today was the photo shoot for the Spring 2010 Collection and it was busy from the moment I woke up. Plans fell through to do this shoot on a Saturday so Baby John had to tag along. Sounds easy – but actually that means there was a boat load of things to prepare and pack. The trunk of the car was just his stuff. Yep, all of the baby gear.

Feeding Baby John on the shoot. Notice he’s holding the knits that aren’t being used?  Meanwhile, on the street this was taking place…

I love this photo of Emily and Alecia – isn’t great? We had so much fun!

After spending quite a while in the cold and making Emily strip down to her tank top for the shawl pictures we were eager to head back to the coffee shop for some hot cuppas and some lunch. We kind of took the place over — can you tell? Emily and I were had so much fun watching Alecia edit the photos — even Baby John got a kick out of it.

Funny Story

There was one particularly funny story of the photo shoot. We were shooting out in front of Chateau Bijou which is located in the Historic Model Mill building in Noblesville, Indiana. Nothing really spectacular but it did have a nice red brick on it that you could get up close to.

All of a sudden a man came out of the building and walked up to us who looked like Asif Ali Zardari (Benazir Bhutto’s husband). “Are you a photograhy studio?” He asked Alecia. Obviously…she’s taking pictures…. duh…. “Well, then I have to ask you to leave. We have a special contract with a local photography studio and they have purchased the rights to shoot in front of this building.” “Not a problem,” we said a little amazed. “How’s the baby?” He asked as we were turning away. Huh? You shooed us away and then ask how the baby is doing? How random is that.

I told the story to JK and he just laughed, “You know, the brilliance of it is that he was able to sell the rights of his building at all. He must be quite a salesman. You should sell rights to photograph in front of our house, dear.” I laughed so hard…so, if anyone is interested, I’ll sell you the rights to photograph, exclusively, mind you, in front of our lovely suburban home!

Now, back to work. Things are coming together…. I think I might need to pull a few all nighters… but the collection will happen!

Stolen Moments

by Christina

Quiet knitting moments, listening to a good book on CD or my podcasts are few and far between right now. I feel like I have to steal them right now, usually from something else that needs to be done, clean the kitchen floor, vacuum, iron, you know, the every-day things. But after a morning and afternoon of taking care of a wee baby on the verge of crawling and a under-the-weather husband, I needed just a tiny break.

So while Little John was down for a nap, I made the husband a tray of tea and then took one cup for myself and headed off to the spare bedroom for a quiet sit & knit. It only lasted 20 minutes but it was blissful! I listened to “The Picture of Dorian Gray” by Oscar Wilde. Book/Knitting club is next week and that is the book we are reading. It’s been interesting….

Do you ever steal moments to knit?

Things to come

by Christina

Life is full right now. My knitting needles have been busy as well as my pen and paper. “Whispers of Spring”, my 2010 Spring Collection is coming together. I’m really excited about the knits in this collection and can’t wait to get the patterns into your hands.

I’ve scheduled a photo shoot with my wonderful sister-in-law, who is a professional photographer, and my sister, who is a lovely model (well, she models for me). I’m looking forward to it — we’re planning a girls afternoon (or morning depending on the weather and Em’s schedule) out, complete with a stop in a coffee shop for a hot cuppa and a fun chat….

Well, babe’s up … and the food shopping needs to be done. Thankfully it’s bright and sunny out today. I think an afternoon walk is in order.

Happy knitting to all! Have a lovely weekend!
