Trader’s Point Creamery

by Christina

A couple of weeks ago I met my sisters, Emily and Heather, and Heather’s kids at Trader’s Point Creamery for a celebration of the end of school.

It’s a lovely place, set back on the only “rolling hill” we have in Indianapolis. It’s quiet, peaceful and the ice cream is quite yummy!

We sat out on the shady deck they have surrounded by a beautiful garden and overlooking the pasture.Of course we had ice cream (and coffee for the adults).

It was definitely a “do-again”, peaceful afternoon!

Also, Ve (the wonderful knitter behind Yarn On The House) did an interview with me. It was a lot of fun to answer her questions!

Can’t wait to see who the winners are! Good luck to all!

Lil John – 9 Months

by Christina

My little sunshine was 9 months yesterday. I just can’t believe it. He continues to look more and more like his daddy, which I just think is the best thing ever!

He has quite the little personality -

… and makes JK and I laugh frequently. Oh, and just like his daddy, he is quite the talker. He newest word is “mama, mama.” I have been trying so hard to teach him “mama.” His first word was “dada,” of course. But just this past Saturday morning I came downstairs to find JK feeding John breakfast and when I walked into the dining room John started saying, “mama, mama.” I was elated! I don’t know if it was coincidence or genius, but it is a new word!

Summer Scarves

by Christina

Some yarn arrived in the mail this week for some summer scarves I’m working on.

These shots don’t do the yarn justice (JK had to borrow my camera to take along to an interview. One of the effects of the recession on the paper: no staff cameraman = busy freelancer = reporters taking their own pics).

But anyways, I was struck by how semi-solids are the rage now. Very interesting.

What do you all prefer? Stripes & color or semi-solids and quiet color?

Please Tell Me I’m Dreaming…

by Christina

10 PM: Finished up a wonderful, relaxing evening with JK and was headed to bed. He was on the phone with his parents trying to figure out the family plans for getting together over the weekend and I was headed to feed John. I walked upstairs and heard this ominous, “drip, drip, drip” coming from our bedroom. I went in to inspect, hoping we had just left a window open in the rain storm. Instead I found water dripping from the ceiling and bubbling out of the wall…..

10:20 PM: JK and I head out in the dark to have a look on the roof to see if we can spot an obvious problem.

10:25 PM: JK can’t spot anything, gutters are clear and running well. I’m standing on the bottom of the ladder thinking, “Please don’t get on the wet roof, please don’t get on the wet roof.”

10:45 PM: Wall is now opened up and an air mover is drying it out

11:00 PM: JK wet vacs the carpet, I go to feed John, an hour late.

11:30 PM: John fed, diapered and back down to sleep. Ah, to be a baby and leave all the decisions and troubles up to mom and dad.

11:45 PM: JK and I tumble into bed (I’m not a late night person and neither is he) exhausted. But of course we’re talking about, “So, what are we going to do tomorrow morning?”

12:oo PM: Can’t sleep – the air mover is so loud – JK whispers, “Well, you’d think we have enough white noise to knock us into a sound sleep.” I can’t help but laugh. I tell you, I’m married to the greatest guy!

In my spare time

by Christina

In my spare time (hah, ha!) I would really like to start some more soakers for John, just in case I get up the gumption to try cloth diapers.

The first one is just a mimic of the traditional one Nancy L made for him. (In fact, it is so easy, I just may stick with it.)

There are a few patterns I’m looking at on Raverly.

This is Adaptation by Connie Stults – isn’t it cute? I thought the garter stitch would soak up more liquid than any other stitch.

And this is the Little Seedling Soaker by Christine Blyden — so cute! Looks like the new cloth diapers!

Do any of you have favorite soaker patterns?

On my needles

by Christina

I have a few projects I’m working on, but one of them is a summer version of the Lamb’s Lace Cardi. I’m making it out of Hemp For Knitting‘s Allhemp.

Let me tell you, it is rough on your hands. I don’t normally choose the softest wools to work with — it’s my personal preference to use a wool that is going to last longer than 6 months. However, this is a doozy.

I remember making a tank for myself out of linen and hating every moment I knit it but loving it every moment I wore it. I have the same feeling as I’m knitting this project. I just keep telling myself, “You’re going to love it, you’re going to love it.”

It is true. Linen and hemp soften and drape as they are worked and worn and become something truly beautiful.

One thing I am enjoying is pushing my Lamb’s Lace Cardi pattern to it’s limit as I try out a totally different yarn than it was originally designed for. The true test will come when it is blocked! I can’t wait!

Things to come…

by Christina

A new design is making it’s way through the long process from my imagination to your needles! I always think – ah, well, that one is done, perhaps a little break would be nice . But without fail new ideas start cluttering up my silly little head and I just have to get them on the needles — doesn’t it sound like I”m crazy? Well, perhaps I am! =)

This one has a few surprises connected to it — let’s just say the pattern will be cheap, cheap – very cheap! That’s a good thing, isn’t it?

happy knitting!
