Shock

by Christina

Remember this?

Did I mention that we had had the very same incident on the other side about 3 to 4 years ago right after we bought the house?

And did I further mention that I never suffered from daily migraines before I moved into this house?

Well, folks, JK and I had the house tested for mold on Wednesday. We read the results on Saturday morning as we were having breakfast. “A normal level is 300.” JK said to me. “It’s 9800 in our bedroom.” I laughed and said, “You’re joking.” I honestly thought he was pulling my leg. “No. You can go read the report.” So I did. I was shocked. It was as if someone punched me in my stomach.

We purposely choose a mold inspector that does not do remediation — we didn’t want anyone that has a vested interest in finding mold. So, now we’re interviewing mold remediation people — and we’re shocked at the cost — something insurance doesn’t cover.

The good thing is… this is probably the main cause of my daily chronic headaches. I’ve been sleeping in the guest bedroom and we’ve shut off our bedroom and I don’t wake up with such a burning headache. That, combined with Topomax has helped to keep me off the bathroom floor (I get nauseated with my migraines).

Anyways…. I noticed that my inbox is quite full… if you sent me an email… I’ll get back to you, it just might be a little slower than normal. We don’t know if we are moving out of our house for a while, staying put but shifting around in the house…. ah… I have no idea…

  1. Wow!! So glad you discovered this now rather than suffering many more years of migraines!!! I’m sorry that you’ll have to deal with such a mess (and expense) but hopefully you’ll feel a lot better! Hope things can get resolved quickly!

  2. Oh my. I’m so sorry but I’m so glad you are getting to the bottom of it! And I really hope that you find much relief from your headaches. Big hugs.

  3. So sorry about the work you need to do at your house… My husband and I had to move out of a rental two years ago because of mold. He had spent all summer inside “recovering” from a bronchial infection and taking at least three courses of antibiotics with no result. Thankfully the allergist clued him in… and we got out as fast as we could. Good luck!

  4. I’m so sorry to hear about the mold problem. The house we moved into recently has had mold remediation in the attic. We keep a dehumidifier running constantly and have hygrometers scattered around the house to make sure the levels of humidity are normal and do not invite mold regrowth. Hope something can be done for your house. Good luck!
