Soakers

by Christina

Soakers

I never thought I would be writing this post.

Never in my life, did I think this day would come!

But I’m actually going to start cloth diapers and wool soakers with John. Don’t worry – I have a couple Thirsties cover’s too. But several people have sold me on the wonders of wool so… I’ve been knitting. So far he has 4 wool soakers and I’m working on the 5th. They are so addictive to knit.

My favorite soaker pattern so far is Adaptation. Love it!

NOTE: I have not begun cloth diapering yet! I told myself that I would try it for 2 months and if I just can’t bear it, I’ll go back. But I have to stick it out for 2 months.

I have so many friends who are thriving at cloth diapering.

It’s the next step in Renaissance Mommyhood!

Tartan is In

by Christina

Have you seen the Fall 2010 Victoria Magazine?

My mom gave it to me for my vacation reading. It was there that I was first alerted to the fact that tartan is in again in a big way.

Someone up here in South Haven read the same issue, because all the antique shops are sporting tartan items laid out in to match the Victoria Mag spread! It cracked me up!

We are such follows of fades, aren’t we!

But I’m not complaining. I love tartans! Hooray for this fall!

Bring out the plaidies!

Beach Knitting

by Christina

These lazy days of September have been perfect up here in South Haven.

JK, John and I have been enjoying afternoons on the beach.

I’ve managed to snatch some knitting time on the beach – perfect knitting scene if you ask me.

Meanwhile, John will take anything and drive it like a toy car. In this instance it was the sunscreen bottle. Very creative if you ask me!

John has taken very well to the sand and the water. JK and I have started to call him our little Sea Turtle. I think he is really going to miss the water when we come home.

Inspired

by Christina

The South Haven Farmer’s Market was over flowing with cooking and color inspiration this morning.

I walked up and down multiple times, picking, choosing, smelling – just taking it all in.

It was absolutely inspiring!

Now, with a glass of wine in hand, I’m off to cook up a storm for dinner!

Vacation – at last

by Christina

JK, John & I just arrived in South Haven for some much needed R & R

Already the sight of white sails on blue water has made my heart sing.

I am delighted by the fact that my baby loves the sand and the water.

I don’t think you can see it in the picture but he is covered from head to toe in sand.

Just look at him!

He wanted to crawl right into the waves!

we’re going to have our hands full making sure he’s safe around the water!

Garter Leaf Shawl

by Christina

DK Weight

I have been knitting – frantically.

I’ve been so determined to go ahead with the fall collection despite the upheaval I’ve been through this summer (i.e. the moldy house) and despite the fact that we still are essentially camping in our house because the hardwood floors are not in.

The first pattern to be released will be the Garter Leaf Shawl.

It’s a crescent shaped shawl knit from the outer edge to the top and consists of short-row shaping. It’s a ton of fun to knit.

Worsted Weight

You can knit it out of three different weights of yarn – sock, DK or worsted – thus you will have three different sizes!

The pattern is almost complete – so look for it soon!

9/11

by Christina

9/11 is a day of remembrance and also a day of joy in our household

It’s JK’s b’day and therefore a time to celebrate!

But no matter what we do or how we celebrate JK’s b’day
somehow, we always go back to “do you remember where you were…”
and we reminisce  about our feelings and the things we did that particular day.

JK was just about to leave for work when he heard about it on the news.
I was at work, preparing for a big board meeting our office was about to have.
A client came in and said we had to turn on the TV, a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. I remember thinking, why be so worried about an accident. But it soon became evident that it wasn’t an accident. As I drove home later that day, in a total daze, I remember seeing long, long lines at gas stations. Lines so long they started traffic jams in the streets. I was shocked. I had never seen a gas line in the US – only in Africa when I was a child.

JK remembers arriving to work at the Star and the newsroom being in chaos. Interviews he had set up started canceling as everyone wanted to be glued to the breaking news. Finally, he just started roaming the streets to talk to people and wandered into Christ Church Cathedral where people were praying. “It’s going to be hard to turn the other cheek on this one.” JK remembers a man saying to him when he had finished praying.

Birthdays remind us to stop and cherish life.
I think having JK’s b’day on 9/11 causes me to stop and cherish it a little more.

Life is precious and spectacular.

It is to be enjoyed and savored and remembered.

Taking it all in

by Christina

What a week it has been!

One of those jumble-up weeks that totally changes your world and left my whole family praying hard.

I woke up from the daze of this past week and realized that Autumn is nipping at the heels of Summer. So I had to sit down for a wee bit of tea to take it all in.

Even though I will not be as “early” as I wanted to be with the fall collection. Fall/Winter patterns will be making their way to you! There are several fun pieces in the works – two in the hands in the test knitters right now!

It’s going to be a glorious Autumn! We must soak it up!

Happy Knitting!
