The Greta Vest

by Christina

One of the fun things at the trunk show were two patterns that were “Coming Soon.”

The first of which is a long tunic vest for women.

Knit in a loose gauge and alpaca or alpaca blend, the fabric of this vest really drapes and swings.  At the trunk show it was so much fun to see the ladies try the vest on and prance about. This vest makes you feel like prancing a bit! It’s wonderful!

Don’t you just adore the front swoop? The secret? Two lines of slipped stitches!

Confused? Well, just wait… the pattern is coming soon! =)

The Trunk Show

by Christina

Hello, friends! I bet all of you are wondering how the trunk show went! It was an absolute blast! What a party, what a night! There are more pictures coming but here are just a few to wet your appetite.

My mom was in Long Island so I had to figure out how to do the big flower arrangement myself! Ahhhh! After a couple attempts I finally managed to come up with the above arrangement.

The line of shawl span both sides of the store. This is only one side – I hadn’t realized I had designed so many shawls!

The cakes were scrumptious. Heather made the prettiest ones – 2 Victoria Sponge and the Vintage Ribbon Cake (pink). I made the 2 death by chocolate cakes and the butter pecan.

The knitted tea cozies we managed to finish up right before the show looked adorable and really added flare to the tea table. And of course we brought our real china tea cups. What is a cup of tea without china…

We had around 75 to 80 people stop by. I don’t think we could have fit any more in…. it was a bit packed at times. Everyone who was there were so friendly about it, though. Arent’ knitters nice?!

And now… I’m a wee bit tired. Two big parties in one week… what fun…

I have a big pot of coffee on downstairs and a boat load of laundry to do and bags to pack… that’s right… we leave in a few days for the coast of Maine… can’t wait!

ta-ta for now!

Spud and Cloe sent me over! We are preparing in our boatyard to welcome (???) Hurricane Irene. If I won the ADRIFT pattern I would have something to remember this storm. We might be adrift ourselves tomorrow. Great designs and thanks for the promo code. On my way to Ravelry to use it! OTN: Spud and Cloe sweater with her delicious sweet pink yarn! Happy day!

So, Andrea, I hope you are safe and sound after Irene. As a side note, I can totally relate to the bated breath feeling of anticipation as the storm came in. My mother and sister are in Long Island right now for a long awaited vacation and visit. It was hard not to call every hour to check up on them and the progress of the storm. Thankfully, they are okay – except for being a bit “home bound” due to the flooding!

Thank you all for your lovely comments. I really enjoyed reading about the projects that are on your needles. I love hearing about the knits that interest and inspire you all!

happy knitting!

The Trunk Show is Tomorrow

by Christina

Hello my friends!

Can’t believe it but the day of the trunk show is upon us! Heather and I have been cooking up a storm. Have you seen the vintage ruffle cake she is making for the party? It is to die for!

We’ve been cooking up a storm and dusting off the china, hanging bunting, and organizing all the patterns.

This morning I need to run out and get the flowers I ordered. Then I have to arrange them! Yikes! The two best floral arrangers (my mom and my sister) are sunning themselves on the beach in South Hampton, Long Island. Ah, well, I shall just have to do my best!

Can’t wait to see you all there!

Birthday Boy

by Christina

Hello friends! So sorry for the bit of a lull – the weekend was a very full one at our house.

Yesterday was John’s 2nd birthday. However, we celebrated it on Sunday as that was the day all the family could gather.

He was thrilled by the presents and wanted to take them to church with him. Poor thing – he didn’t understand why we had to wait so long to open them!

The new scooter went over well – although he likes it best when Mommy pushes him!

Once it became food time my camera didn’t get to see any action – so there are few pictures to show you. So sorry about that friends.

But I must say it was beautiful. I loved sitting under the tree in the backyard, the whole family gather about, the cousins playing happily together…. it was such a happy moment.

Yes, it did rain. BUT… My sister Emily has a brilliant boyfriend and he saved the day. As we were talking away, oblivious to the storm clouds gathering, he quietly held up his iphone and said that the rain was coming.

We gathered everything up and trouped inside. We all were safely inside and just about to start sipping coffee when the deluge reached us! And it poured! We all agreed Em’s boyfriend was quiet the hero.

Well, today is Wednesday and little John went off for his first day of nursery school. I cried buckets last night – couldn’t believe how big my baby has gotten. But, alas, mamas have to start letting go sometime so their babies can grow up….

I had better get busy now! The Trunk Show is tomorrow!

Happy thoughts

My climbing rose is blooming away.

Isn’t that just the happiest thing?

It’s what is giving me an extra smile today!

What’s your happy thought today?

Playtime Sweater

by Christina

It has been so lovely lately I have been doing some evening knitting with a glass of wine on the back deck.

It seems like I have been waiting all summer to do this – the heat wave made it impossible.

I just finished a “mind clearing knit”  - one of those knits that I do just for myself to clear my mind and de-stress myself. I will post the pic soon. But that enabled me to work on some unfinished items that have been lurking around my studio floor in baskets.

One of them is the striped cardigan for John. Isn’t it happy looking? I’m using scrapes of leftover yarn. They are all the same weight (worsted) but have different content. Some are alpaca, some are wool, some are blends of cashmere and wool. It’s been a ton of fun to knit. I would find myself saying, “Let’s do one more stripe.”

It has been terribly satisfying to use up the scrapes of yarn. Although, I am disappoint that I still have quite a bit of the scrapes left! Hmm… maybe a matching hat?

So what are you working on? Have any of you been able to knit outside in this blissful weather?

ta-ta for now!

A bit Fallish

by Christina

All of a sudden, as if a switch has been thrown, we are experiencing fallish weather here in Indianapolis.

I cannot even begin to describe my delight. John and I have been playing outdoors almost all day long. Taking long walks, going on hikes and just basking in the perfection.

I have just finished two Daisy Chains samples for Knitpicks.

I used Comfy Fingering – one skein for the neckerchief size and two for the larger shawl. It was so soft to work with – loved it.

So…. soon Daisy Chains will be available through KnitPicks too! I’ll let you know when it goes live.

Now I had better get to work!

John’s 2nd birthday party is this weekend… and the Trunk Show is not far away – lots to do! I’ll keep you posted on the progress!

have a happy Monday!

Nurture – The Store

by Christina

Wednesday, late morning, my sister and I packed John in the car and headed downtown Indianapolis for a little shopping.

One of my favorite stores to go into is on Mass Ave and is called”Nurture.” It is a lovely little boutique for children, filled to brim with adorable things.

This visit was a little different though. The sweet girl behind the counter immediately drew us into conversation. Excitedly she showed us things in the shop that are made by local Indiana artists – hats, bibs, bunting….

baby quilts – locally made

leather shoes – all hand sewn and locally made

adorable little toys – again, locally made

It was absolutely wonderful to see!

So if you are in the market for a special baby/children’s gift – you will definitely find it at Nurture.

I know I’m now wishing I had purchased this bib for John:

hmm…. I may just have to make another visit down there.
