This Moment

by Christina

{This Moment}

Soule Mama has some good ideas – one of them is her “this moment” photos. One photo every week that she wants to savor.

So here is my “this moment” photo from the week.

John flopped on the floor next to his daddy – We couldn’t figure out why. John never lays on his back on the floor.  It took JK and I a moment to realize it but we think he was trying to copy JK’s pose. Amazing.

A Zimmermann Moment

by Christina

I had an amazing “Zimmermann Moment” Thursday night. You can read all about it over on Knitting Zimmermann.

Best Friends – 11 months

by Christina

John is 11 months old today. One month left until the big birthday. Don’t worry – some fun knitterly things are planned and have yet to be revealed.

Since being reunited with Bobby at the beginning of the week, John gets very excited every morning when he sees Bobby. Yesterday morning he actually said, “Bobba, Bobba, Bobba” and reached out his hands to pet him. It was so sweet. I thought it was a fluke. But John did it again in the afternoon…. and again this morning. So, I guess, Bobby has been renamed, “Bobba.”

But isn’t that how it goes with babies? Their names always sound twice as cute as the real name. My name “mom” sounds like “mem.” It’s hilarious. Only JK’s name, “dad” sounds normal, “dada.”

Ah, the sounds of childhood — it’s adorable. Each moment is too precious. I just hate it when people push kids too fast or worry about things so far down the road or worry about nonexistent problems. It is absolutely ridiculous!

Whatever you’re doing today, stop and enjoy the moment with your kids – it goes by too quickly.

Etsy Envy

by Christina

For some reason I fell in love with a bunch of autumn colored things on etsy last night…

Harvest Festival Merino/Silk by the lovely dyer, Freckle Face Fibers

This adorable carpet bag by Mary Kaiser – isn’t it just a beauty?

This amazing necklace – by Lolavonroe Design - now, that one is a stunner.

What’s got you green (or amber) with envy these days?

Note: I resisted the temptation to buy these lovely things – they are still available for your shopping pleasure!

Lamb’s Lace Pullover

by Christina

The Lamb’s Lace Cardi - pullover version.

I like to challenge my designs occasionally - to see if a v-neck cardigan can be easily adjusted to become a crew-neck pullover.

It was fun to knit. I just knit – didn’t write anything down or look at any papers. It was very therapeutic. I forgot about that kind of knitting – I need to do more of it. I really enjoyed it.

Spinning

by Christina

This is the month of the Tour de Fleece. I have never fully participated but considered it as a good reminder to get out my wheel or spindle and spin away.

Despite the craziness the mold in our house has caused, the construction taking place in our house, our moving out, moving in and general camping out style of living, I have managed to do a little spinning.

I taught my niece how to spin on a drop spindle while living at my sister’s house last week. Little did she know but she too joined in the Tour de Fleece month!

And I finished a tiny little skein of Blue Face Leicester on my spindolyn. I love my spindolyn. It has been my constant companion in each of the moves I’ve made during this mold house episode. I carry it around in a plastic shoe box with a snap-on lid, tucking the fiber around it for extra padding and away I go. I can’t say enough good things about it.

Home

by Christina

As of yesterday we are finally all back home together. JK picked up Bobby where he was staying at the doggy “hotel” (my dad’s house – thanks dad) and brought him home. John was happy to see him and Bobby seemed excited to see John. It was cute. I’m excited that I have my floor sweeper back!

None of our big moldy house decisions have been made or answered. But for now it seems “safe” to move back in. So we’re enjoying being in our own home for awhile. Even if JK and I are still sleeping on mats in the tiny guest room and our dressers are in the dining room and most of the closets and basement are packed up in the garage.

Have I been knitting? Yes. Although, for the first time in my life there have been evenings when I have been so stressed out I have not been able to knit. Can you believe that? Ah, well. One day at a time.

A few inspiring things…

by Christina

Oh, dear knitters, the mold has totally consumed us now. I don’t know where to even start trying to catch you up on the events of the last weeks.

Suffice it to say:

the mold in our house has forced us to move out – again. While it can be remediated my doctor does not think I will ever be able to live in a house with a basement or crawl space (at least in Indiana). I am scheduled to get a full panel allergy test and second opinion before we say goodbye to our lovely home.

John & I are now staying with my sister and her husband and five little ones — the cousins are having a grand time together and I can’t imagine what I’m going to do without all these entertainers when we do get to move back to where ever – yes, can you believe it – I’m somewhat homeless.

Our lovely vacation – which we had so been looking forward to – has been canceled. Sitting on the coast of Maine just doesn’t get the job done back on the home front.  Such is life.

Knitting continues and has been a great source of sanity for me. There have been times when I have been so overwhelmed by the situation I cannot even knit — which is strange for me. I will sit with my knitting on my lap and cuddle it like a security blanket – have any of you ever done that?

But life goes on. This morning I had the pleasure of teaching my oldest niece how to spin on a drop spindle. I’m not too sure she’s hooked – but I think she enjoyed it.

I’ve got several new designs just waiting in the wings in the bottom of my knitting bag…. it’s going to be a fun fall.

And I’ve been inspiring myself with photos from the archives (i.e. the photos for today’s post) and a browse through Artful Blogging

I have totally drooled over A Black Pepper’s pages in this mag – oh, Lucy, thank you, and what peaceful inspiration you have given me! Another mag I’m drooling over is:

But at $14.99 you do think twice about getting it. For now I’m just drooling at a distance.

ta-ta everyone. I’m remembering the old quote, “this too shall pass.” I do hope you all are having a lovely summer, though.

Mr. Munchkin

by Christina

John is now 10 months, pulling himself up to a standing position to play with his Leap Frog toy, climbing steps, putting balls down chutes… it’s just amazing!

He can be so deadly serious and then laugh delightedly — it’s so funny.

He’s my little love and we have too much fun together…

Ginger Leaves Shawlette

by Christina

I recently have had the pleasure of designing a shawl for Knitpicks’ Independent Designer Program!

The shawl is available in two sizes, neckerchief (34″ x 15″)  and shawlette (52″ x 20″) and is worked from the center neck to the bottom edge. The concept for the neckerchief came after designing the Woodland Spring Shawl and receiving so many requests for a smaller version – so you will notice this is a “variation on a theme.”
