Lamb’s Lace Pullover

by Christina

The Lamb’s Lace Cardi - pullover version.

I like to challenge my designs occasionally - to see if a v-neck cardigan can be easily adjusted to become a crew-neck pullover.

It was fun to knit. I just knit – didn’t write anything down or look at any papers. It was very therapeutic. I forgot about that kind of knitting – I need to do more of it. I really enjoyed it.

Ginger Leaves Shawlette

by Christina

I recently have had the pleasure of designing a shawl for Knitpicks’ Independent Designer Program!

The shawl is available in two sizes, neckerchief (34″ x 15″)  and shawlette (52″ x 20″) and is worked from the center neck to the bottom edge. The concept for the neckerchief came after designing the Woodland Spring Shawl and receiving so many requests for a smaller version – so you will notice this is a “variation on a theme.”

TNNA 2010

by Christina

I feel as if I’ve finally had enough strength to pull my head up for a moment’s breath of air and pop on the blog to say, “Hello.” I have actually been sleeping at night so I haven’t been posting, which is unfortunate for you, but fortunate for me.

Quick Mold Update: We interviewed two more mold remediation companies, each with hilarious stories attached to them. But the third company was the charm and we feel confident in the work they will do.

Believe it or not, in all that whirlwind, I was scheduled to attend the TNNA with the Stitches & Scones gang of girlies! I thought the prudent thing would be to cancel but JK thought I needed some time away from the mess.

So, Lin and I got up early and got on the road just in time to be hit by a tornadic down pour. It was terrible. At one point Lin and I decided we were going to get off the road because we couldn’t see but we couldn’t see the exit. Scary! But we made it! Ah!

Unfortunately you cannot take pictures inside the convention center. No secrets revealed! But the picture I wish I could have taken for you was of Ysolda’s booth — it was as cute as a button. She had filled it with vintage things, her lovely samples, tea cups, tea pots, and of course, her cheery self. It was darling! Her new book looks exciting! And… I hear Stitches & Scones has ordered it! Hooray!

But here are a few pics from the weekend….

Of course Jeni’s Ice Cream. You have not tasted ice cream until you have had Jeni’s. Their favors are so unique. I had something like Bourbon Buttered Pecan. If I had been a glutton I would have tried their Riesling Poached Pear too. Ah… it is to die for….

We look rather silly but we were rather happy — it’s that good, it makes you goofy!

And then there was more good food later that night as we chatted about all the things that we had seen….

And even more giggles over some “rum” punch after dinner. This stuff was potent. Let’s just say, three sips and they took it away from me! Yep! I think only my little sis could have finished it. My goodness was that an education — thank you, Nancy! =)

And then the next morning we were at it again – this time with coffee! =)

So what did I wear to the TNNA? I always have fun planning something handknitted to wear. This time it was:

The hemp version of the Lamb’s Lace Cardi with …

one of Heather’s Reincarnations on Saturday and on Sunday…

I wore my new Ginger Leaves Neck Kerchief pattern which will be available soon through Knit Picks — yes, $1.99 download. Are you excited or what? It will be available in a neck kerchief size and a shawlette size! Lin and Shelby were so kind to test knit them for me – Lin wore her neck kerchief on Saturday! It was so much fun!

Well, I hear John waking up… nap times are so short. So that means my time is up.

Happy Knitting!

On my needles

by Christina

I have a few projects I’m working on, but one of them is a summer version of the Lamb’s Lace Cardi. I’m making it out of Hemp For Knitting’s Allhemp.

Let me tell you, it is rough on your hands. I don’t normally choose the softest wools to work with — it’s my personal preference to use a wool that is going to last longer than 6 months. However, this is a doozy.

I remember making a tank for myself out of linen and hating every moment I knit it but loving it every moment I wore it. I have the same feeling as I’m knitting this project. I just keep telling myself, “You’re going to love it, you’re going to love it.”

It is true. Linen and hemp soften and drape as they are worked and worn and become something truly beautiful.

One thing I am enjoying is pushing my Lamb’s Lace Cardi pattern to it’s limit as I try out a totally different yarn than it was originally designed for. The true test will come when it is blocked! I can’t wait!

Things to come…

by Christina

A new design is making it’s way through the long process from my imagination to your needles! I always think – ah, well, that one is done, perhaps a little break would be nice . But without fail new ideas start cluttering up my silly little head and I just have to get them on the needles — doesn’t it sound like I”m crazy? Well, perhaps I am! =)

This one has a few surprises connected to it — let’s just say the pattern will be cheap, cheap – very cheap! That’s a good thing, isn’t it?

happy knitting!

Unwind Yarn

As of last week, my Woodland Spring Shawl, is available at Unwind Yarn in Burbank, CA (as well as in my shop, Ravelry & Stitches & Scones). It’s always exciting when yet another store wishes to carry ClassicCableKnits patterns!

Unwind Yarn does look like a “must visit” if you are in the Burbank area. Doesn’t it look cozy?

The South Hampton Scarf

by Christina

I just finished up the South Hampton Scarf pattern. It is designed specifically for Twisted Fiber Art’s Arial Evolution yarn – isn’t her yarn wonderful?

Sometime in late February I was reading a blog and saw a picture of a woman wearing a shawl made out of the most amazing yarn. I found the lady on Ravelry and searched through her project pages until I found the shawl she was wearing on the blog. Thankfully she had listed the yarn she had used – Evolutions by Twisted Fiber Art. Another few seconds went by as I typed “Twisted Fiber Art” into google and waited for the page to load. Ah, there it was – more information about this wonderful yarn.

A few more things fell into place and soon Meg (the wonderful dyer behind Twisted Fiber Art) and I were talking about collaborating on a pattern for her yarn. Since I had been dreaming about her yarn ever since I saw it, I already had a pattern in mind. Now after working with it I have several more designs lurking around in my brain.

I loved reading about Meg’s process – her studio is in a butler’s pantry in her 150 year old Italiante home – doesn’t that just sound so cute?

As you can see from the scarf above, Meg doesn’t mess around with yarn. She carefully plans and plots each colorway and gives us the most amazing results. Squint your eyes and just look at the color combo she choose for the colorway Lagoon (the colorway the scarf is made from). Doesn’t it look like a watercolor of the sea?

Well, enough prattle! Enjoy!

Lamb’s Lace Cardi around town

by Christina

Lamb's Lace Cardi on Me

I thought I would show you a few pics of how the Lamb’s Lace Cardi is being worn by me and my family. Here I am at Easter – yes, I know, I’m silly but I adore hats.

Heather, Mom & I

My sister Heather made a lovely blueish green Lamb’s Lace Cardi out of Cascade 220. She made the M and found that because it is an empire waist, she can wear it while she is pregnant! What a plus!

And here is my mom wearing it (and desperately wanting one herself) right before we headed off to the fiber festival. Doesn’t she look stunning in it?

You can purchase the Lamb’s Lace Cardi pattern here!

Happy Knitting!

On the needles

by Christina

Meg at Twisted Fiber Art sent out some yarn for a new design. I am awed by her sense of color… just look at the depth of the color in that skein above! Isn’t it magnificent?

The pattern is  done and the scarf almost complete (for the second time). I am eager to show it to you. If you can’t wait to get your hands on some of Meg’s lovely Evolution yarn you can find it here.
