The Fiber Fair

by Christina

Hello, friends!

Oh, my goodness what a week! Thank you all so much for your b’day wishes here and on Facebook! You all are sooooo kind! It really lifted my spirits and dried out the damp feeling that was beginning to creep in about being 30! Thank you all! You are the best!

I’ve been running around this week trying to get everything organized for a blissful Easter Sunday and haven’t had a moment to catch up with you all. So sorry about that.

So, let’s start at the very beginning…. one week ago I drove down to the Greencastle Fiber Event. I love going every year. My husband reminded me of the time he laughed at me for going – this was 8 years ago – right after we had met. He had never known anyone that went to fiber fairs!

Eight years ago the fiber fair was a bustling, hustling place. There were 4 barns – 2 outdoors and 2 indoors. The place was crowded with vendors, animals and people. It was a jolly place.

Last year I thought I saw the biggest change there were 2 indoor barns and one outdoor barn. And I thought that was small and a sign of the times.

I was actually nervous this time when I went. There were 2 indoor barns and a handful of vendors in the barn outside. And the indoor barns were not as full as they once had been.

It made me wonder… and contemplate… and think….

But… that aside, I had a lovely time.

My friend, Cinda, had her booth at the Fiber Event for the first time. I am so proud of her. I taught her how to dye fiber and she took off with it. She is a true artist when it comes to color combinations! I just love her fiber!

And don’t you just love the name of her wool? SassyBee Fiber! It’s just the best!

All her colorways were tempting!

She even had some laceweight dyed for the non-spinners! Can’t wait until she does sock yarn! Won’t that be wonderful! Think of the shawls!

I purchased a lovely colorway – Frosty Fall Leaves! Isn’t it scrumptous? I can’t wait to spin it… I think it will be a neckerchief – what else? I’m in love with neckerchiefs right now!

The Fiber Fest

by Christina

It’s that time of year again!

The Greencastle Fiber Fair is today and tomorrow!

Hooray for spring!

So guess where I’m headed this afternoon – by myself! (Note the BY MYSELF bit. I’m really looking forward to it – wandering amongst things I love and not having to worry if Lil John needs this or that!)

Greencastle!

Hope to see some of you there!

Sassy Bee Fibers

by Christina

Hello friends!

I hope your day is as sunny and lovely as mine. We have a bright blue sky and big puffy clouds today. The grass is greening up nicely (except for the places that died during the drought last year) and the daffodils are blooming. And what is more cheerful than the color of a daffodil?

But…I’m digressing….

I wanted to pop in today and show you some lovely fiber I’m working with right now. It’s from a friend of mine in spinning group. This spring she has started her own little fiber business! Isn’t that just marvelous? I do think she’s a champ for doing so. Her little company is called Sassy Bee Fibers – don’t you just love the name?

Her first show is going to be the Greencastle Fiber Fest, April 15 & 16. I can’t wait to see her booth – it sounds like it’s going to be lovely.  She also sells her fiber up at Stitches & Scones  - so we can all get it after the fiber fest too.

I was privileged to try some of her fiber and I have thoroughly been enjoying it. I love the fact that her fiber is all-American sourced.  And it is dyed to perfection – no felting or tough bits! Just pure happiness!

I can’t wait to buy more in Greencastle!

Spinning

by Christina

This is the month of the Tour de Fleece. I have never fully participated but considered it as a good reminder to get out my wheel or spindle and spin away.

Despite the craziness the mold in our house has caused, the construction taking place in our house, our moving out, moving in and general camping out style of living, I have managed to do a little spinning.

I taught my niece how to spin on a drop spindle while living at my sister’s house last week. Little did she know but she too joined in the Tour de Fleece month!

And I finished a tiny little skein of Blue Face Leicester on my spindolyn. I love my spindolyn. It has been my constant companion in each of the moves I’ve made during this mold house episode. I carry it around in a plastic shoe box with a snap-on lid, tucking the fiber around it for extra padding and away I go. I can’t say enough good things about it.
